Luton Airport

Luton airport by Andrew Thomas

The Luton Airport is the smallest of London next to Gatwick Airport. However, it is, next to Stansted Airport, the preferred airport by low-cost airlines and has become the sixth most important airport in the United Kingdom.

The facilities of this airport are covered by almost 10 million travelers each year and it is located northwest of the city of London, about 48 kilometers.

Luton Airport: origin and history

This airport was inaugurated in 1938 and was used during the Second World War as an air base for the RAF (Royal Air Force), the air force of the British Armed Forces.

Once the war ended, the airport was reused with its usual activity and became the most profitable in the country until its fall in 1974 due to the bankruptcy of Clarksons.

Subsequently, its activity was maintained and finally it became the airport used by a large number of low cost flight companies that arrive there every day.

How to get to London

Well, if your airline arrives at the London airport do not worry because you have several options to get to the city center. They are the following:

Train: East Midlands Trains and First Capital Connect

Choosing this option you will plant in London for 17 pounds and it will not take more than 50 minutes. Of course, the train is the fastest and most convenient way to get there and these in particular make several stops without changing the price of the ticket, so choose the one that suits you best.

The most popular stop is St. Pancrass but in London Bridge also many travelers go down.

Terravision or EasyBus bus

Both buses are the cheapest option to get to London. In the first case you can get a one-way ticket for 10 pounds and in the Easybus, buying tickets with time, you can do it for 2 pounds.

The difference between the two, apart from the price, is the duration of the journey. You can imagine by the prices which takes longer to arrive. Indeed, with the EasyBus you can spend an hour and a half up on the bus quietly. However, with the Terravision bus you can get to London in less than an hour.

Taxis

The option of taking a taxi is presented at all airports in London and anywhere in the world. Of course, it is the most expensive option and you will not reach London for less than 80 pounds.

Transfer Service

Very similar to taxis in price and duration. The big difference is that a driver will be waiting for you at the start with a sign bearing your name.

As you can see, although Luton Airport is not large, it does have several connections to get to the city center. You just have to choose the one that best suits your budget and preference.
