Castle of Bamburgh

Castillo de Vanburgh

On a large rock in the North Sea is one of the most exciting and most historic places in the United Kingdom: The Castle of Bamburgh. A must for any tourist who wants to know the history of England in depth.

What to see in Bamburgh Castle

The Castle of Bamburgh dates from the 6th century, although archaeological remains from the Iron Age have been found in its surroundings, which leads one to think that the island, due to its geographical location, has always been a place of interest for the populations English (and prior to the formation of England).

The Castle of Bamburgh was an important point of resistance both when fighting the Celts, and when defending the Vikings or the Normans. Thus, surviving the passage of centuries through bloody battles, this symbol of English resistance has survived to this day.

In the 18th century it began to be restored, although some of the current results are the result of later restorations, such as those carried out at the end of the 19th century. Today is ready for people to visit. Inside, as a museum, you can visit the different collections of glass and furniture of the seventeenth century, as well as works of art, glassware and porcelain.

It is, therefore, a castle that shows what was the way of life of the highest classes in past centuries. All this, inside a fort of legendary importance, and that will amaze you for its architecture.

In addition to these decorative objects, tourists can also enjoy an armory dating from the fifteenth century.

On the other hand, since 2003, it is possible to attend a new section in the Bamburgh Castle, and it is the Archeology Museum, where you can enjoy the archaeological remains that have been discovered around the castle and, as we have said, date of the Iron Age.
